Hydro Doorways

2022, curtain, sound

In the spirit of Berlin in the early 2000’s when monumental buildings like Kraftwerk remained vacant, Hydro Doorways reopens the obsolete metal doors of Kraftwerk’s eastern wall to drape his techno inspired, operatic curtains. At 8m high and 6m wide the massive textiles will blow open as choreographed air currents channel through the Kraftwerk once again. Accompanying the dancing curtain is an audio piece featuring the work of 2 poets, “This Song” by Detroit poet Nandi Comer, and “A Thread” by Cairo/Berlin poet Haytham El-Wardani. The textile curtain was fabricated with the original tailor of Tresor, Pamela Graebnitz, who sewed the label’s visual identity on fabric banners for their earliest parties.
